Jeff Smallwood, Superintendent of First Response Restoration, ABC's of Home Modifications for Patients with Physical & Neurological Disabilities
A contractors perspective: "First Response is a large, customer service driven restoration company providing Universal Access Design and other construction services. I recently attended the “ABC’s of Home Modifications” class presented by Scott Anderle and was well pleased with the training. Scott’s presentation was concise, informative and practical; and he bridged the gap between those needing the services and the medical and construction fields. After finishing this course I had a deeper knowledge of the subject, and I recommend this course for anyone seeking to understand the bigger picture or seeking to create a more cohesive relationship with the patient."
Joe Amesberry, OT, Iowa, Getting Into Universal & Accessible Home Design - 3 hr one-on-one training course
“The 3hr course with Scott is an ideal starting point for anyone interested in developing a business in home modifications. He tailors the course to meet the specific needs of each individual and ample opportunity for questions is provided. The outline and flow of the presentation is logical ensuring that the three hours fly by in a flash. He provides specific, step-by-step recommendations for starting this type of business. The knowledge and insight from a professional who has found success in the field is invaluable. I highly recommend this course for anyone who is serious about a career in home modifications.”

“I recently took the “Getting Into Universal and Accessible Home Design” course provided by Scott Anderle, PT, CAPS. This course was provided by telephone, in the comfort of my home, along with a Power Point CD and manual which were sent to me in advance.
As a Certified Prosthetist and Orthotist for many years, I had always worked for someone else.
Scott shared his knowledge and experience with me and provided the foundation to start my own Accessibility consulting business.”
Hazem M. Osman, PT, Delaware, Getting Into Universal & Accessible Home Design - 3 hr one-on-one training course
“The three hour phone conference seminar offered advantages not possible in a large class/lecture type venue. It allowed me to engage in one on one dialogue, ask questions in an ongoing manner, steer the seminar towards those goals that may work best for me, move at my own pace, and take advantage of real time integration of computer based and web based instruction including the CHER program so that I had a thorough understanding of each concept before progressing to the next. The seminar helped me to clearly understand the difference between being a home modification coordinator vs evaluator so that I knew exactly which direction would work best for me. Once I felt comfortable with choosing a pathway, the focused attention continued with walking me through steps of developing a business model and marketing and integrating the CHER application. I gained so much confidence after completing this seminar that only two months later I am forming a business entity model and I am gearing up for my first client!”
Rhonda Bonecutter, California, Getting Into Universal & Accessible Home Design - 3 hr one-on-one training course
“Thank-you for the extremely informative phone conference. I had the idea that I wanted to start a company of this nature about a year ago, but only just began to act on it recently, pulling Greg into the idea as well. At that time I I hadn't heard of any other companies doing this from the perspective of the therapist, not the contractor. I knew from my patients that there was a gap that needed to be filled in order to increase their independence at home. I had heard countless stories about patients who had invested money in home modifications that in the end did not meet their functional needs. I began to devise a standard formatted eval (very rudimentary) on the computer that I could use to generate simple reports. I had also started a spread sheets program to organize all the product information I found. It was taking unbelievable amounts of time to enter only a few products! I can only begin to imagine how long it took you to get everything started. Luckily Greg stumbled upon your ABC's of Home Modification course and learned about your CHER program. (unfortunately I was out of the country when it was offered). I wish I had known about this from the beginning. It is so nice to have a good, functioning tool to use. At the rate I was going, we wouldn't have been able to start the company for another year, now it may be possible to do so in the next few weeks. We are still in the very beginning stages (i.e. picking a company name, incorporating etc.). The information from our conference with you will certainly make getting it started much easier. Most of our efforts at this time are going to getting the business structure in place. Once we begin doing evaluations, I look forward to becoming a monthly subscriber to CHER . Thank-you for making your CHER program and personal insights and experiences available to the public. In addition, it is reassuring to know there is someone we can go to for consultations when future questions arise.”
David Hairston, OTR, Texas, ABC's of Home Modifications for Patients with Physical & Neurological Disabilities
"I again wanted to thank you for your workshop in Lubbock, TX a few months ago. In my 19 years as an OT, I have only had a few classes that I consider as Milestone markers in my professional development…Your’s is one of them! I have had countless times to reference the material from your class since January, especially in my new role as the Home Based Primary Care Therapist for the Thomas Creek VAMC."
Monica Novak, Hope Network Rehabilitation Services, Michigan, ABC's of Home Modifications for Patients with Physical & Neurological Disabilities
"Scott is very knowledgeable of current home modification options available to clients in the community that are ADA compliant. From his presentation he has conveyed that he can facilitate from design to completion; small home modifications to large whole home design to maximize independence and dignity. His teaching method is direct with good examples that apply to common challenges that therapist encounter with their client's and the home."
